That argument is reasonable.

Apart from that you've just to deal with the fact that the 4 errors
are thrown on Windows when using absolute paths.
Relative paths could be a solution but maybe that's sometimes not desired.
I suppose you can solve the problem only with a configuration-option
where every user can decide. You still can recommend one solution.

Btw I built the tests from a subdirectory and not directly in C:\, so
the value would be wrong, no matter if "C:/test.css" or "/test.css".
In my opinion here it would be reasonable to built the paths really
relative.

Isn't Windows a bit different in handling directories and disks?

/mypath/ starts at the root of the default disk

If your default disk is
    C:, doesn't it point to C:/mypath/
    F:, doesn't it point to F:/mypath/

Engelbert's rule 1 (below) does not describe this.

somehow this is in my workpile

ans therefore i am very interested opinions

facts (as i remember)

1. a configured stylesheet "/style.css" results in an absolute path
"c:/style.css" on windows.
2. a styleshhet inculding the drive letter only works for

   - reading locally with the borwser
   - only necessary if the stylesheet is on drive c: and the documents on
another dirv
     otherwise the document would work without the drive letter
   - in the theoretic case of a server templating system with a
postprocessor
     removing the driveletter, before serving via http.

therefore i would opt for removing of the drive letter.
but the procedure prepending it is used all over docutils
and if someone specifies "f:/test.css" the driveletter must be left
untouched.

Hello,

I've been using docutils and reStructuredText to write a scientific
document. While I'm fairly happy with the results so far, I have some
trouble enumerating and referencing equations. It appears that docutils
supports this in principle, as the signature of
utils.math.pick_math_environment suggests. However, the LaTeX does not
make use of this feature, as far as I can see.

My current workaround is to change line 2529 of
writers/latex2e/__init__.py from

    math_env = pick_math_environment(node.astext())

to

    math_env = pick_math_environment(node.astext(), numbered=True)

This enables enumeration and allows me to label and reference my
equations using raw LaTeX. While this solves my practical issue, I think
it's not exactly an elegant solution. Is there a more straightforward
and perhaps target-independent way to achieve this?

I'm not Joshua, and I don't know the code in question, but the message
above tells me that the wiki.py module simply doesn't handle
"transition" nodes. You could either remove the transitions from your
source, or add code to the wiki.py module to handle them. After you do
that, if you get other similar "NotImplementedError" messages, you'll
have to repeat the process.

It is an interesting addition that does not stand in the way, so IMV this is
worth a patch. It should be done on the parser side, so that it works for all
writers.

You're trying to do nested inline markup here, which Docutils doesn't
support. This has nothing to do with admonitions. The same thing
(substitution inside emphasis) won't work in any context, but the
substitution *will* work if you remove the strong emphasis ("**")
markup above.

Instead, why not style your Note admonitions? Add boldface to your
stylesheet, and drop the markup.

Total newbie question.  How can I do a substitution in an admonition?

For example:

    **Been using |p| separately and now integrating?**



In my sphinx conf.py I define a replacement rule which gets appended to the rst file prior to interpretation (at least that is how I understand it):

rst_epilog = '.. |p| replace:: Labnext'



My first substitution in the paragraph works without fail.  However the substitution in the note directive isn't applied.  Any work arounds?  Is this a quirk of Sphinx?

I can't help you with Sphinx-specific markup ("download"), sorry. Perhaps
ask on the Sphinx list.

What does ":download:`URL`" do? I've never seen that before.

Putting "#page=12" into the RST source ought to work fine, and it
would if it were a simple link (without the :download: part, e.g. just
"`GA <../LaTeX_docs/GA.pdf#page=12>`_". This produces the following
HTML:

<a class="reference external" href="../LaTeX_docs/GA.pdf#page=12">GA</a>

Please show us the HTML output you get, when you include that parameter.

Hello. I've made a modification to the csv-table directive to use zeroes in
the :widths: option to trigger the exclusion of those columns, e.g. ...

.. csv-table::
    :file: file.csv
    :widths: 30, 35, 0, 0, 0, 0, 35

... would exclude columns 3 - 6 from being rendered. I'm not very familiar
with docutils. Is this something a patch would be desired for and are there
other modifications I should make for consistency across the table family
of directives?

Also, I'm not subscribed to the mailing list.
