The use of electric bikes continues to grow, and all types and ages of riders are getting e-bikes. Whether you need an e-bike for commuting, riding the bike path, getting around town, or mountain biking, there is an electric bike for you. And right now is an excellent time to buy, as many brands are having close-out sales. If you don't mind buying last year's model and aren't picky about colors, you can score a great bike for as much as 50% off. Trek, in particular, has many fantastic electric bikes on sale right now.

Shopping for an e-bike can be confusing. There are many e-bike categories, options, and prices; sometimes it’s hard to know which e-bike is right for you. Electric bikes are priced from under $1,000 to well over $10,000. Through ride testing and research, we found many great e-bikes priced between $1,500 and $3,500, although of course some carry eye watering price tags that are four times as much.

As much as we love them, we know e-bikes are expensive. We’ve rounded up some of our favorites—commuter bikes, cargo bikes, mountain bikes, and budget-friendly picks—currently on sale.

Best Trek Commuter Bike on Sale

Trek Dual Sport+ 2 Stagger

On Sale
Dual Sport+ 2 Stagger

Pros

  • 50mm tires are great for rough roads
  • Very light, for an e-bike
  • Hidden battery
  • Optional range extender

Cons

  • Doesn't come with fenders or racks
  • Non-removable battery

Trek's excellent Dual Sport+ 2 Stagger is on sale now and is a steal at $1,500. Weighing a scant 38 pounds, it boasts a sleek integrated battery and an optional range extender—though with a range of up to 35 miles you're unlikely to need more. This lightweight city bike is a rare find at this price. While hub drive motors aren't as smooth or powerful as their mid-drive counterparts, the Dual Sport+ 2 Stagger excels in other areas: 650b wheels and 50c tires make for a comfortable ride over rough city roads and hydraulic disc brakes provide ample stopping power. Integrated lights are a convenient feature for any hybrid bike, and the bike has mounts for front and rear racks and fenders. However, you will have to buy racks and fenders separately, if you want them. You can purchase the bike online and have it shipped directly to your home, or opt to have it ship to your local Trek dealer for assembly.

Best Value Aventon Commuter Bike

Aventon Level 2

On Sale
Level 2

Pros

  • Great value Pro
  • Throttle assist up to 20 mph
  • Hydraulic disc brakes

Cons

  • Suspension fork is a little harsh

Aventon recently released the Level 3, which represents an update to the popular Level 2 e-bike that's been our favorite for several years. The good news for you is the still-excellent Level 2 is now on sale.

The Level.2 also features integrated front and rear lights, metal fenders, and a rear rack, adding both safety and practicality for commuting. An 8-speed Shimano Acera drivetrain, paired with Tektro hydraulic disc brakes, provides reliable shifting and stopping power. The Zoom Aria suspension fork with lockout enhances comfort on rough roads, making this already impressive commuter e-bike even better. The torque sensor ensures even power delivery to the rear hub motor, making acceleration feel natural and responsive, and throttle assist allows speeds of up to 20 mph, offering a boost when needed.

Best Off-Road Crusher

Aventon Aventure 2 Ebike

On Sale
Aventure 2 Ebike

Pros

  • Racks, fenders, lights included
  • Powerful disc brakes

Cons

  • Heavy

“Big” is the best descriptor for this larger-than-life Aventure.2 e-bike. Aventon combined big tires and big power to make a bike with the potential for big fun. The cushy 4-inch-wide tires and suspension fork provide extra comfort when riding over broken pavement or fire road and doubletrack-type trails. The Aventure.2’s rear-hub motor delivers 750W of torquey power and pedal assistance up to 28 mph, or 20 mph, via the thumb-operated throttle. The Aventure.2 rides smoother than the original Aventure, thanks to a new torque sensor that allows more control over acceleration. The bike comes outfitted with fenders, hydraulic disc brakes, integrated LED lights, and the option to add accessories, like a front or rear rack. The downside to all of these features is a hefty in weight.

Best Utility E-Bike

Lectric ONE Long-Range eBike

On Sale
ONE Long-Range eBike

Pros

  • Super price for a Pinion-equipped bike
  • Gates belt drive for low-maintenance
  • Plenty of torque

Cons

  • Disconnected ride feel
  • Too much torque for some riders

Lectric’s One is a unique bike for one specific reason—its Pinion gearbox.

Pinion is a German brand that manufactures fully enclosed gearbox units. These operate similarly to an internally geared hub, except it is mounted at the bike’s bottom bracket instead of at the rear hub. But most riders have never heard of the brand because its gearboxes are more commonly found on bikes costing upwards of three times the price of the Lectric One.

We were impressed by the smoothness and precision of the Pinion system and by Lectric’s hub drive motor unit. However, since Lectric uses a cadence sensor, the motor feels disconnected from the rider. The cadence sensor has a slight lag, so the rider’s pedaling force does not relate to the motor’s output. This results in a slightly unnatural motor response. Additionally, the One has a lot of torque—we do not recommend it to young riders.

The One’s top-end features do not stop at the gearbox. Lectric also equips the bike with a Gates Carbon belt drive instead of a chain for ultra-low-maintenance performance. It also has hydraulic disc brakes, puncture-resistant tires, and a color LCD screen. Plus, the Pinion gearbox can be set up in an auto-shift function via an app.

Quietest E-MTB Motor

Trek Fuel EXe 9.9 XTR

On Sale
Fuel EXe 9.9 XTR
Now 38% Off
Credit: Matt Phillips

Pros

  • Very quiet motor
  • Discreet profile
  • Cargo mount

Cons

  • Battery is small
  • Tires are fragile

The Trek Fuel EXe was once a revelation among e-bikes, thanks to its ultra-discreet design and whisper-quiet TQ HPR 50 motor. While newer Fazua Ride 60 and Specialized Turbo SL motors have since emerged, the EXe still excels in key areas—most notably its near-silent operation, which significantly enhances the riding experience. A quieter motor may seem trivial, but after extensive e-bike testing, it remains a crucial factor for overall enjoyment.

Beyond sound, the EXe’s motor is the most compact, and its slim battery integrates seamlessly into the bike’s profile. The Trek Fuel EXe also stands out for its simplicity—it lacks the boutique feel of a Pivot or the trendiness of a Santa Cruz but delivers where it counts. Its geometry, riding position, and suspension performance create an intuitive and fast ride. Despite modest power specs, the motor still feels surprisingly strong.

Best E-Cargo Bike

Specialized Globe Haul ST

On Sale
Globe Haul ST
Now 20% Off
Credit: Trevor Raab

Pros

  • One of the smallest cargo bike footprints
  • Excellent battery life and power delivery
  • Strong brakes

Cons

  • Lack of suspension can mean a harsh ride on rough roads
  • Can only carry one kiddo

The Specialized Globe Haul ST packs 419 pounds of cargo capacity into a surprisingly compact frame. With powerful brakes, dialed geometry, and well-thought-out features, it’s ready to tackle commuting, grocery getting, neighborhood errands, or getting a kid to daycare. Without active suspension, the Haul relies on massive 3.5-inch tires for its ride comfort, which work well on all but the roughest roads.

What seals the deal on the Haul is that it’s a blast to ride. This might not strike you as earth-shattering, but many e-cargo bikes just aren’t. What makes e-cargo bikes good often comes down to their utility, and the Haul ST has that in spades. But what it does well is simultaneously manage to be both practical and fun.

Best Value E-Cargo Bike

Aventon Abound Ebike

On Sale
Abound Ebike
Now 20% Off
Credit: Trevor Raab

Pros

  • Powerful motor with a smooth power delivery
  • Lots of options to carry almost anything

Cons

  • Slightly flexy stem
  • Weight

The Abound looks fantastic and well-prepared for the designated assignment. The bike’s squat appearance and stout frame practically beg you to load it up with every possible parcel, payload, or accessory. Also included in the Abound’s base price are a sturdy rear rack, footboards for a passenger, a center-mount kickstand, and an SR Suntour suspension fork.

The bike also comes equipped with a dropper seatpost. Commonly found on mountain bikes, this post allows the saddle to raise or lower when riding the bike (via a switch lever under the nose of the saddle). The dropper enables riders to get on or off the Abound when it has a full cargo load.

Best Value Electric Hardtail MTB

Aventon Ramblas

On Sale
Ramblas
Credit: Trevor Raab

Pros

  • Easy-to-use-controls
  • Large battery

Cons

  • Heavier than other comparable bikes

The Aventon Ramblas is a category-defining hardtail e-MTB that impressed us during trail testing. Its trail-forward components include a 1x12 SRAM Eagle drivetrain that can handle most climbs, powerful four-piston SRAM brakes, a solidly stiff 35mm RockShox fork, a comfy dropper seatpost, and cushy 2.4-inch wide tires. These are unmatched by any other hardtail e-MTB, especially given its price.

The Ramblas has few true competitors for comparatively priced, trail-ready e-MTBs. Every so often a bike comes along that entirely shifts the bicycle market—the Ramblas might do that for mountain biking. And once more bike brands see and ride the Ramblas, I expect several will soon follow Aventon’s lead with sharp-priced, trail-capable hardtail e-MTBs.

Co-op Cycles Generation e1.2 Electric Bike

On Sale
Generation e1.2 Electric Bike

Pros

  • Standard front and rear rack
  • Total capacity of 300 lbs., including the rider
  • Compact size

Cons

  • Can’t carry a kid

The Generation e1.2 is the most affordable cargo-capable bike on we've tested. Even at $1,900, it manages to be impressively equipped with hydraulic disc brakes, front and rear lights, fenders, and front and rear racks as standard.

While its total capacity is lower than that of the other bikes on this list, it can be perfect for riders making short trips like light errands and shopping. It’s also zippy and small enough to pull double duty as a commuter bike. The e1.2 is a good option for riders who don’t need to transport passengers or regularly carry heavy loads.
