1 General Description
The AS3460 is a digital augmented hearing companion device ideally suited for stereo headsets and
headphones as well as True Wireless applications. The extremely small form factor enables unique
augmented hearing experience for its end user with negligible influence on overall play time of the
headset due to ultra-low power consumption. The high integration factor of AS3460 combined with its
all new Augmented Hearing Engine do allow for lowest power signal processing especially tailored for
the needs of active noise cancelling- and augmented hearing applications. The powerful low latency
digital signal processor (AHE) supports up to 250 Bi-Quad calculations to ideally match the
requirements of todays sophisticated acoustics designs and small form factors. Unique digital signal
processor (DSP) functions like seamless ANC crossfading or its integrated music feedback
compensation engine do allow to lift up its user’s augmented hearing experience to its next level.
The high quality Digital to Analog converters with its fully differential headphone amplifiers do allow for
sample rates up to 192kHz enabling HD audio quality offering also ultra-low background noise levels
for augmented hearing applications. The three independent stereo digital microphone inputs do allow
for highest flexibility in wiring up microphones and the I
2
S audio interface does grant also access to
the raw microphone data to enable transmit noise cancelling algorithms on the host side. Thanks to
AS3460 integrated asynchronous sample rate converters that allow for simply audio synchronization
between a host and the augmented hearing device. The integrated oscillator eliminates the need for
an external crystal which further helps to reduce system size and cost. The integrated Flash memory
does allow AS3460 to operate also in stand-alone mode operation and enables that chip configuration
data is stored locally reducing I
2
C bus traffic significantly. A dedicated interrupt signal line features
host notification while local algorithms like Automatic Ambient Preset Selection are executed to
indicate a change in operation mode of AS3460.
