Benjamin Franklin
(Boston, 1706 - Filadelfia, 1790) Poltico, cientfico e
inventor estadounidense. Estudioso de la electricidad y de
cuanto atrajo su inters, inventor del pararrayos y de otros
tiles artefactos, honesto y eficiente hombre pblico y
destacado artfice de la independencia de los Estados
Unidos, Benjamin Franklin fue acaso el personaje ms
querido de su tiempo en su pas y el nico americano de la
poca colonial britnica que alcanz fama y notoriedad en
Europa. Slo desde la admiracin es posible aproximarse a

in the American
Enlightenment
and the history
of physics for
his discoveries
and
theories
regarding
electricity.
As
an inventor, he
is known for
the
lightning
rod,
bifocals,
and the Franklin stove, among other inventions. He facilitated many civic
organizations, including Philadelphia's fire department and a university.

was the first President of the
United States (178997), the
Commander-in-Chief
of
the
Continental Army during the
American Revolutionary War,
and one of the Founding Fathers
of the United States. He
presided over the convention
that drafted the current United
States Constitution and during
his lifetime was called the
"father of his country".
Widely admired for his strong
leadership qualities, Washington
was
unanimously
elected
president in the first two
national elections. He oversaw the creation of a strong, well-financed
national government that maintained neutrality in the French
Revolutionary Wars, suppressed the Whiskey Rebellion, and won

to break from Great Britain and

new
nation.
He
produced formative documents
and decisions at both the state
and national level. Jefferson
mastered many disciplines which ranged from surveying and
mathematics to horticulture and inventions. He was a proven architect in
the classical tradition

divisiveness. Lincoln has been

scholars and the public as one of the three greatest U.S. presidents.
Noah Webster
Noah Webster, Jr. (October 16,
1758 May 28, 1843) was an
American
lexicographer,
textbook
pioneer,
Englishlanguage
spelling
reformer,
political
writer,
editor,
and
prolific author. He has been
called the "Father of American
Scholarship and Education". His
blue-backed speller books taught
five generations of American
children how to spell and read,
secularizing
their
education.
According to Ellis (1979), he gave
Americans "a secular catechism
to the nation-state."
Webster's name has become
synonymous with "dictionary" in
the United States, especially the
modern
Merriam-Webster
dictionary
that
was
first
published in 1828 as An American Dictionary of the English Language.
