His research interests ate in combinatorics, geometry, mathematics education and mathematics recreations. Since 1981, he has been running the Saturday Mathematical Activities, Recreations and Tutorials program for students in the 12 to 15 age group. He is on the editorial board of the Journal of High School Mathematics in China, Mathematics and Informatics Quarterly in Bulgaria and Crux Mathematicorum in Canada, as well as the series of books of which this is one volume. From 1981 to 1984, Andy was the deputy leader of the United States IMO team (under Murray Klamkin). In 1990, he was an honoraty member of the IMO organizing ia. In 1994, he was a member of the IMO Academic Committee in Hong Kong. In 1995, he was chairman of the IMO Problem Selection Committee. He is a vice-president of the Intemational Mathematics Tournament of the Towns. He is serving or has served on the problem competitions. In 1996, he received the David Hilbert International Award from the World Federation of National Mathematics Competitions.
