French brand Look Cycles has unveiled the newest iteration of its Trail Roc flat-pedal platform. Geared towards riders of the enduro, gravity and trail-riding persuasion, the new pedal boasts a concave platform with eight adjustable threaded pins for improved grip and stability when negotiating technical off-road terrain. Manufactured in France, the Trail Roc pedal is set to provide an affordable alternative among the plethora of MTB flat pedal options currently available.

Look has designed the Trail Roc to strike a balance in terms of the way the foot interacts with the pedal interface. As such, Look claims it uses an 'ideal shape' to ensure the riders' feet stay secure and planted for added confidence when traversing rough trails and drops – in this case, a 105 x 106mm platform (Q-factor is rated at 56mm, while the pedal profile comes in at 17mm). This has been achieved by creating a concave shape to lock in the foot and improve the connection between the platform and the shoe.

Eight symmetrically positioned threaded pins - located on each side, together with the concave platform shape - have resulted in outer pins that sit 2mm higher than those on the inside. These raised outer pins are claimed to bolster grip and stability over roots, mud and and high-speed berms. The kicker here is that all the pins are replaceable and can be adjusted to suit varying footwear and conditions.

Look has focused on reliability and long-term maintenance with the Trail Rocs, which should find favour among those looking for a pedal to go the distance. Look claims 224g per pedal, placing the Trail Rocs on the lighter side of the flat pedal weight scale. Despite the weight, they've been designed to be hardy enough to withstand rock strikes and other trail features, thanks to the use of hardy materials.
In terms of materials, the pedals are crafted from aluminium, featuring oversized Chromoly thru-axles for enhanced load bearing and leverage. The innards utilise dual-sided cartridge bearings and aluminium bushings for smooth and reliable operation in both wet and dry conditions (the axles and bearings come pre-greased from factory).
