A data dive into the 2025 Classics

The 2025 Classics season certainly felt like a roaring success for Lidl-Trek, but what does the cold, hard data reveal?

Praise has poured in for Lidl-Trek’s classics campaign from both inside the team, the media, and fans. Our men’s team dared to defy the duo of cycling’s unstoppable force and immovable object, Mathieu van der Poel and Tadej Pogačar, who undeniably had the most dominant classics campaigns of the entire peloton, each leaving the spring with two more monuments added to their palmarès. While Mads Pedersen didn’t bag a monument of his own, the Dane certainly had the best spring of his career. From six starts at one-day races, Mads finished no worse than 7th (Milan-Sanremo), was on the podium on three occasions (Paris-Roubaix – 3rd, Tour of Flanders – 2nd, E3 Saxo Classic – 2nd), and enjoyed a glorious solo victory at Gent-Wevelgem. It’s clear that Pogi and Mathieu sit atop the throne as Kings of Spring – but Mads made a strong claim for the third seat, not far behind the two titans. However, the fate of Lidl-Trek’s classics season didn’t rest solely in the hands (or legs) of one rider. We racked up four one-day victories in this period, each with a different rider on different terrain.

  • Edward Theuns, Bredene Koksijde Classic
  • Mads Pedersen, Gent-Wevelgem
  • Thibau Nys, GP Miguel Indurain
  • Mattias Skjelmose, Amstel Gold Race

Lidl-Trek’s success isn’t built on any one superstar – it’s powered by collective strength. And that’s clearer than ever when you look beyond the cobbled monuments to the full spring calendar of one-day races. Our data team crunched the numbers across every classic from Omloop het Nieuwsblad to Eschborn-Frankfurt, and the verdict is in: there’s a strong case that Lidl-Trek was the most successful squad of the spring.

Here are a few standout stats from the 20 one-day races we contested:

  • UCI points: We racked up 6,583 points – more than any other team – averaging 329 points per race, also the highest.

  • Podiums: No team had more riders on the podium than Lidl-Trek, with 11 top-three finishes, including three monuments.

  • Top 10s: We notched 21 top-ten finishes – often with multiple riders in the mix. At Liège-Bastogne-Liège, Ciccone (2nd), Nys (5th), and Bagioli (6th) all delivered. At Flanders, Pedersen (2nd) and Stuyven (5th) delivered a powerful one-two punch.

  • Biggest points hauls: Our top-scoring races were Liège (1,295 points) and Flanders (1,015).

Conclusion

All told, it’s been a spring to remember. From gutsy rides in the monuments to consistent firepower across every one-day battleground, Lidl-Trek showed up and showed out. The numbers back it, the fans felt it – and the season’s just getting started.
