Change the date field used in your plan

This page refers to the advanced planning features that are only available as part of Jira Cloud Premium and Enterprise.

By default, your plan uses the Due dates field when scheduling work items.

To change which dates your plan uses:

  1. Next to your plan’s name in the sidebar, select More actions (•••), then Plan settings.

  2. In the Scheduling tab under the Dates section, use the drop down menus to select what to use as the start and end dates of your work items. Custom dates that you’ve already configured are listed alongside their corresponding IDs for easier identification.

Custom date fields

To use custom dates in your plan, you need to first create the custom date field and add it the schemes of the projects that you’re using as the work sources in your plan. Read how to configure custom fields in your plan.

Once that’s been configured, you can then select your custom date.

On your timeline, the custom dates are marked with a lozenge D in the Date column. If your dates have S next to them, then your plan is inferring dates based on sprint dates. If your date fields have an R next to them, then your plan is inferring dates based on release assignments.
