AMD Discontinues Wraith Prism And Wraith Spire Coolers For Select Ryzen 5000, 7000, And 8000G Processors

Roughly after seven years of launch, AMD is discontinuing its iconic Wraith Prism and the Wraith Spire stock coolers that usually ship with many Ryzen processors.

AMD Announces Discontinuation of Wraith Prism and Wraith Spire; Will Ship the Wraith Stealth Instead of Those Coolers With Ryzen 5000, 7000, and 8000 Series

AMD has quietly updated the product IDs of several of its Ryzen SKUs in the Ryzen 5000, 7000, and 8000 series. The new product IDs also mention the reason, which is AMD's discontinuation of two of the most iconic stock coolers made by AMD. These are the Wraith Prism and Wraith Spire, which launched alongside Ryzen 2000 series in 2018. Nearly seven years later, these coolers have reached their End of Life, and many of the Ryzen 5000, 7000, and 8000 series processors will no longer ship with these coolers.

As spotted by @momomo_us, many Ryzen SKUs now have a new product ID, indicated by a change in suffix at the end. These include SKUs like Ryzen 7 8700G, Ryzen 7 7700, Ryzen 9 7900, and even the Ryzen 5 3400G. All these processors clearly mention that the AMD SR4, aka Wraith Prism, and the AMD SR2a, aka Wraith Spire, have reached EOL. For Boxed processors like Ryzen 9 7900 and Ryzen 7 7700, it appears that there won't be any replacement for the Wraith Prism; however, for MPK SKUs like Ryzen 7 8700G and Ryzen 5 3400G, AMD will replace the Wraith Spire with the Wraith Stealth.

Due to the AMD SR4 cooler reaching EOL status, select AMD Ryzen 7000 and 5000 Product ID Boxed models are updated to no longer include a cooler, removing the AMD SR4 cooler, starting 8/1/2025. Contact your local AMD Sales Representative for more information.

Due to the AMD SR2a and SR4 coolers reaching EOL status, select AMD Ryzen 8000G, Ryzen 7000 and 5000 Product ID MPK models are updated to include the AMD SR1 cooler, replacing the AMD SR2a cooler, starting 8/1/2025. These changes result in configurations that meet their original design specifications. Contact your local AMD Sales Representative for more information.

The discontinuation came into effect on 1st August, and, likely, the newer Boxed and MPK models will no longer feature the Wraith Prism or Wraith Spire coolers. One such example is Japan's online retailer Nojima, which is already selling AMD Ryzen 7 8700G and Ryzen 5 3400G with the Wraith Stealth cooler instead of the Wraith Spire. It appears that this won't affect the prices of the CPUs, but in cases where there is no replacement at all, users will be forced to buy an aftermarket CPU cooler even if they don't plan to overclock.

The Wraith Stealth is the smallest cooler in the series and doesn't feature any RGB lighting. Wraith Prism and Wraith Spire are more robust and offer a bigger heatsink for better performance. Both stock heatsinks offered satisfactory performance, making aftermarket CPU coolers unnecessary unless overclocking was planned.
