Ott was born in northern Kentucky. In the mid-1970s he moved with his family to Silver Spring, Maryland, where he lived for the next twenty years, attending high school in downtown Washington, DC, and college at the University of Maryland, where he earned a BA in English literature. He moved back to Kentucky in the mid-1990s with his wife, Marygrace, where they have lived ever since. They have six kids and several cats.view less
