What will you say with your video?
Of course, everyone knows that a picture is worth a thousand words, right? So that should mean that as videographers we can really speak our minds and show stuff! Welcome to video production - where your ideas and words come to life - with the visuals to back them up.
Video demands attention - people watch!
We've all watched a lot television, tons of movies, and maybe you've even made some movies yourself. You can use this book to help you come up with an idea for a video, think critically about what kind of content works best in video, and then get into shooting and editing techniques that will make your video engaging for your viewers.
The power is in your hands.
We are bombarded with visual images in magazines, television, videos, movies, and the web. These images are designed to inform, convince, or in some way engage our emotions. In short, they are designed to communicate messages. Video images can be composed and combined in specific ways to convey a desired message, much like words can be combined into sentences, paragraphs and stories.
There's a visual grammar
that has its own set of rules. They form the foundation upon which all films and videos are based today. Knowing the rules, and knowing when to use them or break them, gives you the power to tell your stories visually. When you combine that knowledge with the production tools that are available to you, there's the makings for a video revolution.
Some Sample Video
Spend some time really looking at the video you see in your daily life - from broadcast television to YouTube - you probably regularly see high and low quality video. Now's your chance to really look at it, analyze it, and determine which parts you want to replicate in your own channel, or which pitfalls you absolutely want to avoid. Take notes as you're watching television, movies, or even checking out the latest YouTube sensation on your iPhone.
iTunes has created a Video Podcasts
section which you can get to right from the iTunes Store at the main Podcasts page. You can use this as yet another way to find vodcasts on a variety of topics by clicking the tabs to get to the different categories.
Okay. Go wild and see what you find. You might be amazed. I'm sure you'll get sidetracked (a good thing in my mind). But just don't forget to come back here when you're fresh and ready for the difficult work of designing your own vodcast channel.
Designing Your Video
Let’s focus on the big picture - and figure out what sorts of video you'd like to create and maybe use for
