First Things First
I would like to begin by saying a heartfelt Thank You!
for investing in this book. I believe it will save you a lot of heartache and expense in your future motorcycling adventures, which is the main reason I wrote it.
I’ve been riding motorcycles since 1987, and have made many mistakes during that time; I’ve also made some very good choices. I’ve owned over 20 different bikes, countless articles of motorcycle clothing, helmets, gloves, electric vests, etc.
Had I known better, I could have probably bought half the gear and been very happy with my choices. But I had to learn by trial and error, which is usually quite expensive. Sometimes, though, it’s the only way to know if something is right for you.
My goal is to help you first of all decide whether or not the motorcycling life is something you want to try. Then, if you determine it is, to help you make wise decisions in your motorcycling purchases to keep your expenses as low as you can.
One thing I’ve learned over the years is there are times when the lower cost options will do just fine. Other times, you will be money ahead to buy a higher cost item, because it will do the job better and last longer. I will try to point out which options are best, and why, as we go along.
