Beginner Guide to the Stock Market - Jamie Thomson
Introduction
T
he Stock Market can be a fantastic way to invest and earn a long-term passive income, but where do you start? What needs to be done to set-up an account to purchase your first stock and importantly, what should you buy? You don’t want to lose your money, but you also understand the importance of making your money work for you rather than just sitting idle in the bank. People tell you all the time that the stock market is risky. But is that true? Is it a good time to buy now or should you wait?
These are just some of the questions that the Beginners Guide to the Stock Market will answer for you and get you started on your financial journey.
"It’s not supposed to be easy.
Anyone who finds it easy is stupid."
Charlie Munger, American Investor and Philanthropist
Misconceptions
The images that people see and the misconceptions people have about the stock market include fast cars, get-rich-quick schemes, stock booms, stock crashes, bull & bear markets, quick cash, insider trading and panic buying and selling are just few that come to mind. Unfortunately, many ‘should’ be investing in the stock market but never take action to do so because of these clouded misconceptions.
On the flip side, there are so many that would love to invest their money in the stock market but usually come up against the following five concerns or fears.
They don't know where to start. It all seems too complicated!
They hear that the stock market is 'too risky' and are afraid to invest.
They are unsure how much to invest, where to invest and when to invest.
They have invested before; they lost their money and are cautious about trying again.
There is too much terminology to understand.
The 'Beginners Guide to the Stock Market' is all about understanding how the stock market works, learning some terminology basics, wealth-building strategies, great stock investing habits, automating your stock investments, creating a passive income and investing your money wisely for the long-term. It brings together all of the information you will need to know to get started and importantly, keeping it condensed into approx. 90 minutes of reading or listening.
This is certainly not a Financial Planning or Stock Trader's textbook, nor will it contain any unethical tips or tricks or 'get rich quick' schemes. This book will provide you with a very sound, practical, common sense and straight forward approach for the best way to invest in the Stock Market and how to get started with the best chance of success for your investment future.
It is essential to note from the outset that this is a 'Beginners Guide', and although it does provide the basics, I will show you how to create an excellent source of long-term passive income and establish your financial and wealth goals. This book will also demonstrate that you don't need a huge income or to be across the markets every day to become a millionaire from purchasing stocks, in fact, I will show you a straight forward savings and investment strategy that with time and the power of compounding interest, you can achieve massive returns. It will be an excellent starting platform for you to improve your financial position, start your stock investment journey or continue with a few tweaks and changes. Yes, it is possible to make money quickly, but it is not as simple as many would have you believe. I don't want to discourage your appetite from making quick money, but you should be aware of the basics:
If you already have money to invest, or you are just about to embark on your journey with no savings at all, I will provide examples and action tasks for you to start the process and share with you the essentials of investing in the stock market. Note: I use 'invest' as opposed to 'trading' because they are two very distinct ways of approaching the stock market. Trading implies short term buying and selling as opposed to 'investing' that has a longer-term perspective.
Your First Steps
For many years, I have been investing in the stock market, and along the way, my 'beginner mistakes' have taught valuable lessons that have both been challenging but critical for my journey. Without these lessons, I wouldn't be in the fantastic financial position I am now, earning many thousands of dollars in passive income, no matter if I'm sleeping or awake. Importantly, this book will also show you how to automate your finances so you can use the set-and-forget approach with just 30-minute quarterly checks to ensure
