INTRODUCTION
After first being introduced to personal development through the audio series Get the Edge by Anthony Robbins, I was hooked. Spending the next decade devouring book after book, audio after audio, video after video, I became a serious student creating book summaries that led me to build the world’s largest free book summary website in written, video and audio format bestbookbits.com. I spent many years taking detailed notes of the videos and audio programs I listened to. I set about compiling and organising the information into a 300-page quote book solely for myself that I did not publish. After continuous study and practice, I uncovered a formula sorting through all the information on personal development and organised them into this book.
I spent the next 13 years researching, practicing, teaching, and refining the steps to personal success, and now I bring you the complete guide to making your dreams a success. The book is a personal journey that invites the reader to answer questions that are unique to each individual. This book is designed not only to educate and inspire you but also to be a workbook that you can use and come back to from time to time in your life to see your growth and the changes you have created.
From the beginning of the book, we uncover together your unique dreams, passions, desires, and purpose and create exciting goals for your life. We then go deep into mindset, exploring the inner world of the mind such as thoughts, beliefs, attitude, and gratitude and then focusing on the work required to turn your dreams into reality through change, actions, and habits. Learning about health, happiness, and self-love along the way. Growing into the new you, overcoming fear and pushing past failure, developing the motivation and courage not to quit, developing persistence and discipline. Then finally winning: getting the result, money, and success you dreamt of. This book will inject new energy into your life by getting you more involved in the direction of your life and into the game of life and as a bonus effect become the best version of yourself.
Becoming the best version of yourself and making positive changes in your life are the best gifts you can give to people and the world. Changing your environment for the better starts with changing you for the better. Make your dreams a reality and live a life of your own design.
CHAPTER 1
Dream It
I want to you take a moment and go back to a point in your life whether that be 5, 10, or 20 years ago. Reflecting on the life you have now and seeing the things that were once a dream come true, look around you and think about how the things you have in your life were once dreams, and now they are a reality. This should give you confidence knowing that you do have the power to make your dreams come true, whatever they may be, big or small; know that the life process is a growth process.
Now, after reflecting on your past and the journey you have made so far, I want you to fast-forward your life and add 10 years to your age. So if you are 30 you are 40, if you are 40 you are 50. Now picture all the dreams you have in your mind right now, how you want your future to be, and pretend for a moment all of them have come true. You are on a holiday somewhere exotic by the poolside relaxing, reflecting on how far you have come in the last 10 years and having achieved all that you set out to achieve. You have the career of your dreams, the relationship, family, friends, all the toys, house, and possessions you dreamt of. What does that look like, and how does it feel? Really take the time to visualise in your mind. What does it look like, and how does it feel? Take a minute to picture yourself at that moment.
Exercise: Write your future story.
The purpose of this exercise is to get you thinking about your dreams and injecting belief into them. You don’t want to end up like the unfortunate many who wind up on their deathbeds looking back with regret that they didn’t live the life they dreamt of. Instead, you want to be focused on living the life of your dreams so you won’t be burdened by the regrets in the future when it’s all too late. As Jim Rohn said, ‘We must all suffer from one of two pains: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret. The difference is discipline weighs ounces while regret weighs tons.’
Dream big
If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavours to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with success unexpected in common hours.
—Henry David Thoreau
The truth is most dreams do come true, but most of those dreams are small and insignificant in the grand scheme of things. Most people aim small and hit and then stop aiming. Let me explain. If you achieve your small dreams, then you only reach the low heights of life and join the crowd of the average mediocre. There’s nothing wrong with the mindset of the average or mediocre crowd, but I suspect you wouldn’t be reading this book if you didn’t hold massive dreams.
Because most people have the habit of thinking small, they in turn dream small and don’t accomplish much in their life. Most people dream small and reach their dreams, never realising that it wasn’t defeat that kept them down, but it was success on a small scale that kept them from aiming high. I don’t want to be a Debbie Downer and downgrade your dreams and aspirations, but in reality, no one really cares if you have X amount of money in the bank, where you live, what you have, and where your last holiday was. At the end of your life, society will judge you by the person you were, what you accomplished, what you gave, and the contributions you made.
Develop the habit of increasing the size of your dreams by thinking bigger. It all starts with you and your thoughts, and you are the only one who can think for you; no one else can. Start by upgrading your dreams to a ridiculous level and then some. There is no limit to dreams – only limits in your thinking. Your thinking is the ceiling of the heights of your dreams. As Grant Cardone said, ‘10X your dreams.’ Stretch your thoughts as we don’t lack the capacity to think; we only lack the imagination to dream. By practicing the habit of dreaming big, you start to unlock the power of your subconscious mind to come up with ways to make this a reality. Start today by giving more attention to the size of your dreams and thoughts by thinking abundantly rather than scarcely.
Giving life to your dreams
All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity. But the dreamers of the day, these are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes, to make it possible.
—T. E. Lawrence
It is one thing to dream and another to act out your dreams. The truth is most people only dream and never get around to acting out their dreams. Dreams only become a reality through our actions. I cover action later in the book, but for now I want to focus on the first and most important action you can take. That action is taking your dreams out of your head. I don’t care whether you write on paper, type on a computer, journal, tap into your phone, or however you like to do it. The most important first step you need to take before anything else is to give your dreams life by getting them from images in the mind to written words.
Statistically, with the very act of you giving life to your dreams by putting them in concrete words, you are 50% of the way to making your dreams coming true. The remaining 50% is the hardest, of course, because it requires work and persistence, and I will cover this in the remaining 49 chapters. For now, before anything else, take the time and begin to take your dreams from images to words.
Daydream about your dreams
How many thoughts on an average do you think you think a day? One hundred, two hundred, five hundred? Try 50,000 to 70,000 thoughts. That’s correct. The average person will have 50,000 to 70,000 thoughts every day. That’s a hell of a lot of mind chatter. My question to you is, what percentage of these thoughts are focused on your dreams?
Spend time to daydream about your dreams. Think about your dreams being completed and manifested into reality. Get into the daily practice of taking a few moments and just daydream and let yourself focus on your dreams. Get really creative with the process. Add colour to the image. What would it look like? Add emotions and think about how it feels. Visualise and add scenery to the image as a backdrop, and really think about your being there sometime in the future having had your dreams come true. Contemplate your future reality and hold on to the
