Introduction
Hello, everyone! This is Darin Eich, and this is The Design Thinking Mindset: How to Access the Power of Innovation,
a course from Scribd. Thank you for joining me.
Take a moment to think about a challenge that comes up in your life regularly, something that makes you frustrated on a daily basis. It could be something in your home life, or something that comes up at work. Whatever it is, it’s something that makes you want to say, There has to be a better way!
Innovation is happening all around us. Think about all the ways your environment has changed over the last five years, or even ten years. Think about how innovation has changed the way you communicate, the way you get around, the way you entertain yourself or spend free time. Most of these innovations come about because of a challenge just like the one you thought of earlier. People want a better way to call a car, or get their groceries. Businesses want a better way to fit the ever-changing needs of customers.
This is where design thinking comes in. Design thinking is a process to help you understand complex challenges, and come up with innovative solutions. Your solution could be creating new products, new services, or, if you’re not in the business of design, just doing something in a new way that you’ve never done before.
In this course, I’ll give you a thorough description of what design thinking entails, along with a clear framework for understanding how you can use design thinking to address challenges, both in your work and in your daily life. I call this framework the Challenge, Ideas, Action model — the CIA framework,
as it can be
