Red – foot tortoises or commonly known as Red – Foots are hardy tortoises that are medium in size. They have a docile temperament and generally easy to keep as pets. These tortoises can make ideal pets for first – time owners. The red – footed tortoise is mostly native to different kinds of habitats. In the wild, they can be found in humid tropical forests as well as dry savannahs. Generally, they prefer a more humid setting. Some of them also range in the semi – arid land of South America.

Red – Footed Tortoises particularly hatchlings are usually available in pet trade which are captive – bred species. Adult red – footed tortoises can either come from shelters or breeders but some can also be caught illegally in the wild – something that you don’t want to do. Red – foots that are caught in the wild may have acquired certain illnesses and it might not be beneficial to the conservation status of the breed as well.
