To begin with, you will surely have some questions such as: What is depression? How do I know if I suffer from it? Would cannabis help me?
According to the Panamerican Health Organization (PAHO), depression is an emotional disorder that causes a feeling of constant sadness and a loss of interest in performing different daily activities. Also called "major depressive disorder" or "clinical depression," it is a disorder that affects a person's feelings, thoughts and behavior, causing a variety of physical and emotional problems. People may have difficulty performing daily activities and sometimes feel that life is not worth living.
According to WHO, it is estimated that depression affects more than 300 million people. It is the 4th leading cause of disability worldwide; in adolescents it is the leading cause of suicide. About 800,000 people commit suicide each year, and suicide is the second leading cause of death in the 15-29 age group. Therefore, there is a greater need to address new therapeutic alternatives such as medical cannabis for the management and control of these conditions and to improve the quality of life of those who suffer from them.
In this ebook, you will understand if there are possibilities that cannabinoids -those substances derived from cannabis- can be indicated for the treatment of patients diagnosed with this disorder. And for this, you must know the history, epidemiology, risk factors, stages, alteration in systems and how the diagnosis is made, you will also learn all about the incredible endocannabinoid system and how it is involved in the regulation of mood, its distribution in the body, its receptors and all the homeostatic-physiological functions it performs in our central nervous system, as well as some clinical studies that show that phytocannabinoids -especially CBD- can be used as a possible antidepressant treatment for a satisfactory clinical evolution of the patient.

DEPRESSION: A GRAY VIEW OF THE WORLD
Emotions are reactions and affective states present in the human being. Many of them are characterized by intensification during the manifestations of some disorders. One of them is depression.
To talk about depression we must start with the Hippocratic of the 5th century BC. At that time, what we now call depression
was called melancholy and was defined as a set of symptoms of despair, insomnia, irritability, uncertainty, and a feeling of deep sadness. Over time another fundamental symptom was soon added: fear. This is the origin of the ancient concept of melancholy, a concept that was associated with two emotions: sadness and fear.
Later, at the beginning of the 2nd century A.D., this definition changed with some modifications by Galen, the principal signs were: melancholia was a form of chronic non-febrile madness, in which the patient was abnormally fearful, sad, tired of life and often accompanied by some delusional idea.
In the Renaissance, the belief in astrological determinism gave rise to a conception of the world as a harmonious macro-microcosm, and the influence of Saturn (the element of earth, of the north wind, of winter )was essential, representing a melancholic temperament, characterized as dry, indifferent, saddened and morose.
During the eighteenth century, this symptom became a common element in clinical descriptions. Some authors described it as a state of partial frenzy and related to melancholia (the primary and defining symptom), although
