Realizing help is needed is the first step. Making the call is the hardest step and admitting help is needed. Sometimes change is so gradual, it’s not noticed until the help needed is immediate. There is no such thing as immediate help.
This guide is a resource to assist you in finding and developing a plan to get the help needed. The sooner you start seeking help, the better.

Questions to Answer When Seeking Services
Answering the following questions can help in the first step towards the appropriate help.
Have there been falls in the last six months? If yes, how many?
Is there a balance problem?
If yes, do you know the cause of the balance problem?
Is there an Alzheimer’s or Dementia Diagnosis?
Is there a recent hospitalization?
Is there a recent Rehabilitation stay?
New diagnosis?
Is bathing assistance needed?
Is housekeeping assistance needed?
Does the individual need help with meals?
Do they need assistance with insuring Medication is taken?
Is the caregiver in need of respite?
Is the diagnosis terminal?
What type of insurance does the individual have? Medicare? Medicare Supplement? Medicare Advantage? Medicaid? Long Term Care Insurance?
What is the doctor’s advice?
All these questions and more, are important when determining the type of care.

Home Health
This a program that is paid for by Medicare with a doctor’s order. Home Health is Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, and Nursing if needed. A person needs to be home bound. Make sure the Home Health company chosen explains the home bound status.
