Preface
Three years ago, I found myself at a crossroads, utterly unhappy with the career I had chosen and continuously thinking about what would have happened if I had chosen differently. Personal circumstances guided me to choose information technologyinsteadofmedicine, thinkingIwasnotreadyordidnothavethefunding topowersuchadream.ButallthistimeIkeptonbeingdrawntomedicineoneway or another, and for a divine reason my passion reignited.
I stopped everything and decided to pursue medicine. Making such a shift was not easy, but as I started volunteering at one of the London hospitals, COVID-19 happened.Throughoutthepandemicwhileworking, experiencing, andpreparingfor my future career as a doctor, I witnessed loads of sickness, death, and tears in the hospital. I have realised what I missed all this time: nurturing my soul and passion, knowing what dedication means through the work of amazing healthcare professionals, seeingcolleaguesspendendlesshoursonshift–sometimesjustgoing
home for a change of clothes. That is what dedication and love for one’s own craft means. I want to do that; I want to become that.
