About this ebook

What Is Artificial Intelligence Art

A work of art made using artificial intelligence (AI) systems, such as text-to-image models and musical generators, is referred to as an example of artificial intelligence art. Examples of artificial intelligence art include photographs and musical compositions. The term "digital art" is occasionally used interchangeably with it. AI art, in contrast to digital art, makes use of generative algorithms and deep learning techniques to develop artwork on its own, without the need for human artists to provide any direct input. This distinguishes it from digital art, which relies only on computer technology.

Artificial Intelligence Art - Fouad Sabry

    Chapter 1: Artificial intelligence art

A work of art created using artificial intelligence (AI) programs, such as text-to-image models and musical generators, is referred to as an example of artificial intelligence art. Examples of artificial intelligence art include images and musical compositions. There are occasions when it is confused with digital art.

In 1956, the academic field of artificial intelligence was established, and in the decades that have passed since then, the field has experienced several waves of optimism.

There are many different mechanisms that can be used to create AI art, such as the procedural rule-based generation of images by using mathematical patterns, algorithms that simulate brush strokes and other painted effects, and artificial intelligence or deep learning algorithms, such as generative adversarial networks (GANs) and transformers. These are just a few examples.

AARON, which was developed by Harold Cohen beginning in the late 1960s at the University of California in San Diego, is considered to be one of the first significant artificial intelligence art systems.

In 2014, generative adversarial networks, also known as GANs, were developed. A generator is used by this system to create new images, and a discriminator is used to determine which of the images that were generated should be regarded as successful. The websites StyleGAN and BigGAN are utilized on the website Artbreeder, which went live in 2018. The input may also consist of images, keywords, and configurable parameters. One example of the latter is artistic style, which is frequently referenced in the prompt through the use of keyphrases such as in the style of [name of an artist].

The Museum of Modern Art hosted an exhibition titled Thinking Machines: Art and Design in the Computer Age, 1959–1989, which presented an overview of the applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in the fields of art, architecture, and design. The Google-sponsored benefit and auction held in 2016 at the Gray Area Foundation in San Francisco, where artists experimented with the DeepDream algorithm, and the 2017 exhibition Unhuman: Art in the Age of AI, which took place in Los Angeles and Frankfurt, are both examples of exhibitions that demonstrate the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the production of art. An issue of the magazine published by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) was devoted entirely to the topic of computers and art in the spring of 2018. The Beall Center for Art + Technology presented the world premiere of Duet for Human and Machine in June of 2018, which was an interactive art piece that allowed viewers to communicate with an artificial intelligence. 2019 saw the opening of AI-related exhibits at the Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna, as well as the Austrian Ars Electronica. The 2019 Out of the box festival hosted by Ars Electronica investigated the function of art in the promotion of socially responsible change.

Examples of such augmentation may include, for instance, the enabling of the expansion of noncommercial niche genres by amateurs (common examples of such genres include cyberpunk derivatives like solarpunk), novel entertainment, novel imaginative childhood play, very fast prototyping, – for instance, via the generation of drafts, inspirations, draft-refinements, and image-components (Inpainting).

2022 predicts that artificial intelligence (AI) art will be a major technology-driven trend that will have an impact on business in the years to come. Synthetic media is included in this prediction.

There are platforms available for sharing, trading, searching, forking/refining, and/or collaborating on prompts for the generation of particular imagery from image generators. These platforms allow users to do any of these things. On image-sharing websites such as reddit and websites devoted to AI art, prompts are frequently shared alongside the images that they accompany. They are not all of the information that was used as input or details for the creation of the images.

Additional functionalities are currently being developed and may improve a variety of applications or enable new ones. For example, Textual Inversion refers to the process of enabling the use of user-provided concepts (such as an object or a style) that are learned from a small number of images. This process
