Preface
Adolfo Gelsi, also known as Rudy, was born in Italy. He has been in the USA for over 30 years. In the year 2000 he resided in Bridgeport, Connecticut where he was falsely accused of a crime. He was confined in a facility called Alternative Incarceration Center where he wrote the following collection of poetry. These poems express his anger and negative views on society. His hope is that no one in this country be falsely accused for this may cause a loss in human dignity which is something that every individual has the right to maintain and defend even if it means the loss of liberty. If this is accomplished, it will mean that the truth will eventually clean the soul.
Since the start of this agonizing period of his life, Mr. Gelsi has spent over seven months writing this collection of poetry which clearly expresses the turmoils and stresses that has taken place in his mind. By writing this book, he has created an emotional escape, one that has aided him in dealing and giving him a chance to critique society - its’ rights and its’ wrongs - and how it has affected him and others.
His poetry is powerful in that it touches themes such as anger, love, and hate. It is done in a creative and forward manner that manages somehow to cause a strong reaction to the reader. One may be surprised at what Mr. Gelsi has to say, but then again one may also feel sadness in his words. In the same manner, the reader may also feel angry for he touches delicate points in our society that aren’t easy to talk about much less express these emotions on paper.
As a whole, his poetry leaves us with a mark about our own well-being. His words make us think about what is most important in life and how one should live it. This Collection of Contemporary Poetry is well written, is full of creativity, and is very moving.
Furthermore, the reader will be moved at the way in which Mr. Gelsi expresses himself. He manages to catch the reader’s attention from the beginning and ending of every poem that he has compiled. After reading the first poem you are sure to read the ones that follow. In the end, you will be sure to appreciate the creative piece of work that Mr. Gelsi has offered us.
A Breath of Love
I sense a warm breathing tonight
It’s you next to me.
I lie in the darkness of this immense universe.
And in the loving thought that never lasts.
Tonight something changed.
Reality has just reappeared.
Your breathing and first dream will keep me warm.
Tears coming down from your cheeks will wet my soul.
Mixed with sweat of love.
A breath of love.
The first time.
No words of introduction but just passionate looks.
You are naked next to me.
Sleepless night, the sun aside and the wakening morning.
Your breathing can’t hide.
Who are you?
After love I ask and no answer was her response.
An angel, a soul savior that came into my life to save my soul.
A new breath of love convincing my thoughts.
A new day will grow.
Sunset is near.
I still feel your breathing.
To me a senseless way.
The look that says take me away.
Tonight I will be born again.
Into your loving arms.
And every night you cover my soul.
Giving me new life with a breath of love.
A Fateful Friend
I love the way you are.
A fateful friend.
What you have done for me
entering my life in a casual way.
And believe me I have grown
to appreciate your friendship more than I can say.
Thank you for being a fateful friend
especially when I do need someone.
Your kindness and support shows me that you care.
You are amazed at my rewarding words.
And just what is a friend? you might ask.
I will tell you if I may.
A fateful friend is a person with whom you can dare
to be yourself with.
Your soul and mind
can be naked with her (sometimes preferably with
