City Homesteading Essentials - Alex Mason
Introduction: Embracing the Urban Homesteading Lifestyle
Accepting the lifestyle of urban homesteading. Thanks for coming to the concrete jungle: Time to get dirty.
Hello, people who live in cities! Are you sick of living in the city? Do you feel hopeless when you look out the window of your tiny flat and see nothing but concrete? Do not be afraid!
City Homesteading Essentials: Transforming Your Urban Space into a Self-Sufficient Oasis
will save you from the produce section of the grocery store and show you how to make even the smallest space into a lush, edible jungle.
You don't need a garden big enough for a soccer game to be an urban homesteader. You can be one if you have a windowsill, a fire escape, or a stubborn streak that says, Yes, I can grow cucumbers in my living room.
Why homestead in the city?
Due to the fact that tomatoes taste better than traffic jams. When you start urban farming, it's like starting over with your life. You stop being a passive customer and start making things.
It's about trading the noise of cars for the sound of chickens clucking and the light from streetlights for sunshine shining through your tomato plants. It's for people who like their mojitos extra fresh with mint from their own garden and who think eggs should come from animals you know by name.
The Good Things: Not Just Salad Let's talk about turkey, which you can grow. Homesteading in the city can change your life. Growing your own food is the best way to get fresh, tasty food. Plus, there's nothing better than serving a salad that was still growing an hour before dinner and feeling proud of yourself.
When you dig, plant, and chase chickens that get away, your food bills will shrink like cotton in hot water, and so will you. Your carbon impact will go down, and you'll be giving back to the Earth one compost pile at a time. You'll also get a great workout. If you have a yard, why go to the gym?
