Insomnia… It is something that almost every single person on this planet will suffer from at one time or another in their lives and yet it is also something that most people know very little about.
It causes us to lay awake at night hoping for a little rest but never finding it. Left alone, it will only get worse and start to affect us in our everyday lives. It can affect our relationships, our jobs, and even our health. So, what should we do?
This book contains proven steps and strategies on how to end insomnia so that you can start getting the sleep that you need.
There are many causes of insomnia but one thing that remains the same in every case is the sufferers need to get a good night’s rest. Insomnia can make us feel desperate, as if we are losing control of every area in our lives. It can make it very hard for us to understand and learn new concepts or just function in life.
That is why this book was created. No one should have to go to bed tonight knowing that they are not going to get the rest that they need. No one should have to get up in the morning exhausted from not being able to sleep the night before.
This book provides every remedy and technique that could be found to help treat your insomnia. From small changes that you can make to natural remedies and so much more, you are going to find everything that you need to know about treating your insomnia in this book.
It is important to me that you get the sleep that you need when you go to bed tonight and that is why I have put so much work into this book. I want to provide you with all of the answers to your questions and help you get the rest that you need.
As we work through each chapter of this book we are going to focus on the different tricks, tips, techniques, and remedies that you can use in order to treat your insomnia and finally get the sleep that you need.
These techniques, remedies, tips, and tricks are not only going to help you fall asleep faster, but they are also going to help you to stay asleep longer ensuring that your body is fully rested when you wake up each morning. You are going to be able to take on the world.
But for right now, let’s worry about taking on that insomnia. Come on, let’s get started right now so that when you go to bed tonight you will have the tools that you need to ensure you are able to fall asleep and wake up rested in the morning.
Chapter 1
What Is Insomnia?
Insomnia is a complicated sleep disorder that many people suffer from. Perhaps you are having trouble sleeping and have been wondering if you are suffering from insomnia.
According to the Mayo Clinic, insomnia is a sleep disorder that is very common. It makes it very hard for a person to fall asleep or to stay asleep. A person who is suffering from insomnia may wake up much earlier than they wanted to and find that they are not able to fall back to sleep. When a person who suffers from insomnia wakes up, they may not feel rested at all. Insomnia not only affects a person’s sleep, but it can affect their quality of life, their performance at work, and even their health.
How Long Does It Last?
There are several different types of insomnia. The first one is acute insomnia. This means that it occurs for a short period of time and it is usually caused by something that is happening in a person’s life. For example, when you cannot fall asleep because you are excited about something that is going to happen the next day. Or when you are so stressed out because of the way that things are going that you can’t seem to sleep.
Each person is going to need a different amount of sleep, however, for most adults seven to eight hours per night should be fine. If you find that you need more sleep than this, you should talk to your doctor. If you are unable to get seven to eight hours of sleep each night because of an inability to sleep, don’t worry, this book is going to help you catch some z’s.
Most people will experience this type of insomnia at some point in their lives. The majority of people who suffer from acute insomnia are going to find that it passes on its own and does not need treatment.
Chronic insomnia on the other hand is when a person experiences insomnia no less than three nights each week for a duration of no less than three months. This insomnia usually needs to be treated in order to get the person back into normal sleeping patterns.
Comorbid insomnia is the type of insomnia that occurs alongside another medical condition such as depression or anxiety. Some of the medications that are used to treat certain conditions are going to cause insomnia. Those that are suffering from arthritis or severe back pain may have a hard time sleeping as well, which will cause them to suffer from insomnia.
Onset insomnia is what we call it when a person struggles to fall asleep.
Maintenance insomnia is the name for when a person has a hard time staying asleep. A person who has maintenance insomnia is going to wake up often during the night and will have a hard time going back to sleep.
In 2005 a study was done which found that 57 percent of women suffer from insomnia compared to 51 percent of men. According to this study, if you are a woman, you have a slightly higher risk of suffering from insomnia than a man. Sadly, only about 7 percent of people actually received treatment for their insomnia.
Women tend to suffer from insomnia more than men because of their hormonal changes. Insomnia can also be linked to depression in women. It is important if you think that you are suffering from depression that you seek professional help right away. You may find that with the treatment of the depression, your insomnia goes away.
One of the main reasons that women suffer from insomnia is because they give birth. Taking care of a new baby is very hard work and it would seem like a new mom would be able to fall asleep whenever the chance arose. Oddly enough, many new parents are struggling with insomnia.
It is likely that this insomnia is caused by the anxiety and stress that the parents have to deal with after their new baby’s arrival. It is important however, for not just new parents but everyone to be able to learn the causes of their insomnia so that they can understand how to treat it best.
Think back to when insomnia started. Did something happen in your life that was traumatic at that time? Were you dealing with a lot of stress? Did a lot of changes happen all at once that you maybe were not prepared for? If you find that you can pinpoint a cause for insomnia, the chances are that it is acute, and it will go away once that problem that caused it is solved.
Learning how to spot the triggers for your insomnia is very important. Almost anything can trigger insomnia, so you need to make sure that you understand what is triggering yours. For example, if you are overwhelmed in your day to day life, spend a lot of time worrying about what is going to happen in the future, or are dealing with too much stimulation at one time, you may end up triggering insomnia.
Think about the days that have led to the nights that you were unable to sleep. What happened on those days? Where they particularly stressful? Was there something about them that made them different from the other days in your life? Make a note of any specific trigger that you find as you think about those days.
Start keeping track and look for triggers. When we do not sleep enough it can lead to insomnia getting worse. Part of this is because we are worried that we are never going to be able to sleep again, and part of it is because we dread going to bed at night knowing what a struggle it is
