Meet Michael A. Delitala

DearReader,I’mextremelyexperiencedinthepharmaceutical industry,withoverthreedecadesasmostlyaqualityandcompliance guy.

This volume is dedicatedto solving problems.

Qualityisauniversalconceptapplicabletoallaspectsofallindustries, therefore this volume, past volumes, and future volumes are applicable to any industry anywhere.

Companies usually hire me as a Quality Systems & ComplianceLead.They usually name me as the owner of this thing called theQuality Management System (QMS). I delve into detail on what that means in Volume 1. I won’t be overly redundant in this volume then.

Companies also hire me because I’m good at solving problems.And solving problems is a dying art. They don’t teach you how to thinkcritically in school any longer.This means I’m becoming a dyingbreed.Therefore, I have no choice.I am obligated to write thisvolume as legacy so that problem solving will not ever die.It canand will live forever in these pages.

I live in the rebellious, ambiguous space of quality.I toe the linebetween the dark side and the light side of quality. What that really means is I know where I can take the most risk because I make time to understand people, the business, and what quality and compliance

means for an organization.In short order of starting with a newcompany, staff usually knock on my door or call me to help themsolve some problem. After a while, staff and leaders start to label it as a Mike thing.Call Mike for that.I know that Mike will beable to figure this out for us.This volume then tries to define theMike thing with the label of problem solving.It’s really a system of inquiry, plus the collection of data, due diligence, plus a smidge ofroot cause analysis.And after thirty years of experiences, well,there’s not much that surprises me because I’ve seen it and done itand that’s also how I know I can solve it – because I have alreadysolved it at least once before.

Listen.There are plenty of books out there about solving problems that are overly prescriptive and take a long time to read and still do not give you the answer.This volume is short, gives you the answer, and then backs up the
