CONTENTS
INTRODUCTION
Yesterday if someone would have thought of following the advice given by their parents, many of us used to roll our eyes. Bovine in mindset Their rules appeared prescriptive Their knowledge is archaic Their advice, unbearably paranoiac. They were to do things better as we swore that our generation was indeed different and carried the secret to success. But gradually a rather unusual circumstance started developing. People lived his life to its nicest standards unbeknownst to them and the things that parents said started to sink in into our brains than ever before.
This book is a tribute to that moment: these events are frightening at first because of our fear of isolation, but in the end deepen our understanding of life by acknowledging the possibility that those who were close to us understood it far better than we did. It is about understanding how it was like to live their life, how valuable the lessons they attempted to teach us were, and how profound knowledge could be disguised under petty things they said and did. What they said to us isn’t devoid of any basis whatsoever. Ideas were created from their lives, their challenges and their accomplishments. They had struggles and hassles, errors and blunders, successes and triumphs well before any interaction with you and I. Everything they said to us was out of love, even when it wasn’t very much fun at the time.
In Through Their Eyes: In the episode
Why Our Parents Got It Right," we will look at the wisdom our parents wanted to pass on to us. From they knew the value of hard work and discipline, to understanding the pain of others; they tried and tested the best advice, which is why this book delves deeper into those truths. Through their eyes we will discover why these lessons persist as guiding principles and why in so many ways our parents were right. This journey is not about romanticizing childhood or trying to rewrite the story that our parents raised us. It simply means accepting them as people, and finally attempting to find in what they said some value in doing so as far as they could envision it. It is as simple as wondering how could the advice that we just ignored contain so much wisdom about life, love, and growth?
So, let’s take a closer look at this as a strategy. Let us look at life from their point of view and understand why their advice is still a guiding star to our lives. Perhaps we look for answers elsewhere and, finally, realize that the answers were present with us all the time, said in the voices of people who recognized us at first.
CHAPTER 1
THE POWER OF PATIENCE
WHY WAITING AND WORKING FOR WHAT YOU WANT BUILDS CHARACTER
In this context patience is always described as something noble, as something you ought to possess and cultivate but what we never understood was patience was nothing but a test we never wanted to pass. Our parents, however, knew the utility of this practice and always pointed us to waiting and labor for what we desired. By their example and educations, they informed me that patience is not simply having to wait, but being able to do so successfully and in good spirits.
They include; one day, when we as kids wanted to have a new toy or a gadget to play with. This is from our parents; instead of surrendering in a snap and having it served for you, they taught us to work for it. They recommended that they offered to do chores, save allowances or do tasks that are involving and time consuming. At the time, it was quite irritating and not required what so ever. Why didn’t you bring it here today? But over time, the lesson became clear: In this case, the implications are that the things which people work hardest to achieve are the things that people care most about.
Well, my parents never just taught me to be patient; they practically were patient. What we were able to observe involved them putting money aside for holidays rather than using cash on tendencies. He struggled hard to solve his problems, possibly paying bills or making a life for us to live in. Their effectiveness at not getting distracted or losing their temper at turbulent periods proved that hard work pays off.
As advised by them I got to understand that patience is definitely not a form of laziness. It is a flow of running a process that requires people to have faith, to accept failure and to persevere in striving for success regardless of apparent distances between perception and achievements. Waiting and working for what we wanted was
