Facing Cancer Unafraid - Mavis Constantine

    Acknowledgments

I must first give thanks to God for assigning this meaningful and life-changing project to me. I had never envisaged the day could come when I would publish a book of any size. It took this evil disease to spring forth a good work, which God has ordained for His divine purpose. I really had to depend wholly on the Holy Spirit to put it all together.

Next, it is important that I acknowledge Dr. Alan Benjamin for the prayer he left with me after Bible School on a little slip of paper that I kept for the last twenty years. Your prayer was answered, for I kept my yoke fastened to Jesus, and He did find use for me, even, now at age seventy-two.

Pastor Earland Banfield and the members of Holiness Revival Ministries also deserve their due recognition for the prayers, uplifting words, and continued encouragement throughout this entire experience.

With humble appreciation, I thank my husband, Val Arthur Constantine, who showed interest in the contents of the book. He listened well and never grew tired of hearing me. Though he did not contribute to the work itself, his support was constant: something that I deeply valued.

My first son, Jason, also deserves my gratitude. He practically built me a desktop computer in one weekend so that I could start the book exactly when I wanted to, and he partially financed it, as well.

Ahalia, my daughter-in-law, was my personal technical support, working remotely with me throughout the myriad of issues at the inception. She, too, is worthy of my thanks.

I also wish to extend my gratitude to my daughter Trisha, who assisted in filling computerized forms and teaching me how do emails and other computerized activities necessary to complete the project.

Finally, I would like to acknowledge my dear friend Roxanne for her constant encouragement and prayerful support.

    Preface

This little book that you are holding in your hand was not a book I ever thought about. Truly, I have never written a book. On my second day of fasting on liquids, on the 26th of October, 2022, I was lying on the couch, looking at a Christian program on TBN. I sensed a presence, and I heard these words within my innermost being: You have a body of information to write a book; call it ‘Facing Cancer Unafraid.’

This was not the first time that I heard the voice of the Spirit giving me instructions. One morning in 2005, He spoke audibly and instructed me to place an ad in the Express Newspaper under the Counselling Services Section. I was told to call it Healing Prayers among other instructions as to what I should and shouldn’t do. To confirm that I did hear from the Holy Spirit, God healed the second caller of HIV AIDS.

This young woman visited me a year later on Mothers’ Day at the church that I was attending to show me how healthy she looked and to personally thank me. Of course, this was all the work of God, and He was glorified.

Whatever is God’s purpose in having me to write and publish this book, I know for certain that it will be accomplished. As for me, I am simply a yielded vessel and His willing servant.

    Introduction

I never thought that I would have had to travel this road, but we don’t get to choose. We choose with whom we would travel and how we would conduct ourselves, whilst on the journey.

My story has its roots in that time in my life on the 30th of March, 2016, when I awoke from a long and restful night’s sleep with what the doctor diagnosed as vertigo. When I heard about it, deep within my spirit, I rebuked that disease.

Instead of attending clinic to deal with it, I ventured out into the countryside to stay with my loving niece, Marsha, having accepted her warm invitation to come and relax. I did so for twelve consecutive days. Nevertheless, there were still instances of slight dizziness.

On the 13th day, I took my praying to another level. I did what we believers in Christ term spiritual warfare prayers and put the disease of vertigo where it belonged, under my feet. From, then to now, I have not experienced any dizziness as I had before, and we are in 2024. God came through for me, once again. God be glorified.

Having won the victory over vertigo through faith in Jesus and His Word, I was dressing to return home a week or so later when my fingers moved across my left breast and stopped at a small, hard mass that was not there before.

Immediately, I sensed a sinister plan. I blurted out to the devil, So I won over vertigo, and you want to put cancer on me, now. Well, I will show you how cancer cannot scare me.

Of course, God heard me. He sees and knows everything. Whatever I was about to experience, I knew that my God would be with me, all the way.

    The Initial Stages

On returning home from my restful stay in the countryside, I was definitely not in the mood to begin a routine which I knew was not in any way pleasant. So, I just pushed those thoughts aside and went on living my life.

Approximately six months later in November, 2016, I visited the Port of Spain General Hospital to set up a date for a mammogram. The mammogram was performed on the 8th of December, 2016, and the results later indicated that the cells were indeed malignant or cancerous.

    I was not surprised
