Introduction
Dear Friends,
When I first began to write this book of daily devotions, it was with the intent to write for my family. Several of us were really going through some tough times. My brother had just lost his dearest wife to Alzheimer's. My sister was taking care of our mom of 96 years, which was a day-and-nighttime job. My other sister was taking care of her bedridden husband, who had numerous health problems. I got to thinking that maybe a book of devotionals would be good for all of us. The more I worked on the book, I began to realize that there are many people, like ourselves, going through hardships and difficulties who could probably use some inspiration as well. One verse led to another, and I realized I was working on a book for the whole year.
This year has been tough for a lot of people. We've had hurricane and flooding, fires and mass shootings. So many people have lost so much. My hope is that this book of devotions will lift the hearts and minds of all who read it—one day at a time. It not meant to be preach or to sway anyone's personal beliefs. It is meant to encourage and uplift by using reminders from God's Word.
I pray as you read each daily devotion along with the inspirational verse, you will feel both encouraged and strengthened by God's gentle and loving reminders.
May God bless you and take care of you every day, and may you feel his faith, love, and kindness in your own personal life.

Day 1
Titus 1:2 On Lying
In the hope of eternal life that God, who cannot lie, promised before time began.
If you've ever been lied to, then you know how devastating it can be. It can be difficult, if not impossible, to trust in that person ever again. How wonderful a blessing for us as God's children to know that God will never lie to us. He cannot lie; therefore, we can always trust in his promises.
You are my God, you cannot lie,
Your words are just and true.
Everything you've promised us.
Most surely will come true.
A future filled with joy and rest,
When pain has gone away.
When all our tears have faded,
On that blessed perfect day.
Day 2
On Being Thankful
Don't worry about anything, but through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your request to God.
—Philippians 4:6
As anyone who walks this life knows, it is easy to worry and feel anxious. How wonderful to know that God wants us to tell him our concerns while taking time to thank him for all he's done and will do. Is there not a sense of peace that comes over us just knowing how much he cares?
Dear God, we want to thank you today
for all the love you show.
We thank you for the many gifts,
that we have come to know.
Please help us not to worry, Lord
but to call on you to day.
To praise you for your blessings rich,
And to thank you when we pray.
Day 3
On Trials
Consider it a great joy my brothers and sisters whenever you experience various trials.
—James 1:2
Wow! I'll be the first to admit how hard it is to find joy in trials. This verse goes on to say that this will work out endurance. My peace comes in knowing that God is only a prayer away, and he will lovingly help me get through whatever trials come my way.
Thank you, God for all you do,
for all the trials you see me through.
The ups and downs of every day,
You guide my feet along the way.
Thank you for the little things,
For the joys life's beauty brings.
Thank you, God, for loving me.
Thank you, God, for everything.
Day 4
On Forgiveness
As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgression from us.
—Psalm 103:12
Have you found it easier to forgive others than to forgive yourself? God wants us to do both.
I find it so comforting to know that God has put my sins far, far away. He's so loving and just. This should be our guide to be forgiving and loving to those who do us wrong. It's not always easy for us, but through prayer and thanksgiving, God will help us for sure.
Sometimes I say things I don't mean,
When the anger over-rides,
Then I feel just terrible
When the pain at last subsides.
There's no way I can take it back
Once it's said and done.
I can only seek forgiveness
from the High and Lofty one.
It's not always so easy Lord,
To put in practice what you teach
With your help I will succeed,
My goal I'll surely reach.
Help me show the kind of love
That you have shown to me.
Help me be forgiving, Lord
To be the best that I can be.
Day 5
On Fear
The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?
—Hebrews 13:6
Fear is such a curious thing. It can keep us from harm, or it can hold us hostage. Many of us tend to fear the unknown—that fear of what might happen. If we let it, fear can rule our lives.
God does not want us to be afraid. He wants us to pour out our concerns to him in prayer. Be specific. Hold nothing back. Let God be your comfort. Don't forget to ask for God's peace.
Sometimes I'm like a child, Lord
Afraid and feeling alone.
