Chapter 1: Overcoming Lust

In this chapter, we will explore powerful keys to overcoming lust, drawing from the wisdom of the Scriptures.

Galatians 5:16-17 states, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

Titus 2:11-12 adds, For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world.

As we journey through life, we encounter various temptations. Believers must be prepared and equipped to face lust and fantasy lust. Lust can be defined in two ways:

A strong sexual and sensual desire toward another person.

An intense longing for something, such as power or control.

Lust unifies sex and temptations. From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible teaches that lust is not merely sexual; it is also linked to evil desires and greed related to materialism and self-gratification.

James 1:14-15 warns, But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

Scripture instructs us to cast down these thoughts and actions in our daily lives. 2 Corinthians 10:5 says, Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.

The association of lust with sexual behaviors has been amplified in both the Church and the world. Lust is infiltrating the house of the Lord and society at large. Pornography is destroying lives, homes, and marriages, which are falling apart every minute.

2 Timothy 3:1-5 describes the perilous times of the last days: For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

This spirit is affecting our young people, both saved and unsaved, churchgoers and non-churchgoers. They are entering a harmful arena, knowing they may never return from their fornications and wicked deeds because their consciences are seared.

2 Timothy 3:8 states, Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.
