ERC 721 Standard - Fouad Sabry

    Chapter 1: ERC-721

The ERC-721 Non-fungible Token Standard is a technical framework that defines a set of rules and interfaces for the purpose of producing and managing non-fungible tokens (NFTs) that are unique to the Ethereum network.

ERC-721 is credited with formalizing the idea of a non-fungible token (NFT) and laying the groundwork for the digital collectibles ecosystem that emerged concurrently with its acceptance. This ecosystem is today worth many billions of dollars.  In addition to being deployed in a variety of high-profile projects, it is one of the NFT standards that is utilized the most frequently across all use cases combined.

William Entriken, Dieter Shirley, Jacob Evans, and Nastassia Sachs are credited as co-authors of the standard, which was developed through a community-driven initiative that was formally published in 2018 as a paper with the same name. The standard was formally published.  ERC is an abbreviation that stands for Ethereum Request for Comments, and it is a component of the peer-review process that the Ethereum community uses to evaluate new proposals before they are accepted for publishing. The 721 is a one-of-a-kind identification with which each proposal is assigned arbitrarily once an editor has given their approval during the draft
