Chapter 1: A Nation Once Under God

America was not built on moral relativism. It was not built on secularism, socialism, or the shifting sands of cultural trend. This nation was built intentionally and unapologetically on a foundation of biblical truth. While the modern revisionist would have us believe that faith was incidental to our founding, the truth is exactly the opposite: belief in God was the cornerstone of American liberty, not a footnote.

From the earliest settlers to the framers of the Constitution, the overwhelming testimony of our nation’s beginnings points to a deep reverence for the God of the Bible. The Pilgrims didn’t cross a dangerous ocean in search of pluralism, they came seeking religious freedom so they could worship the one true God without fear. The Mayflower Compact, signed in 1620, clearly stated their purpose: for the Glory of God, and the advancement of the Christian faith.

That phrase alone flies in the face of the modern myth that America was meant to be a secular haven. What our founders desired was not the removal of religion from public life, but the protection of it from state control. They knew the tyranny that
