TCS initiated the registration process for NQT (National Qualifier Test) for priority institutes in August, and the exams were conducted during the first week of October. The results were declared by the end of October, and I was selected for the Ninja role (despite solving only one full coding question and partial test cases for the second).

Shortly after, I received an interview call and was invited to the TCS office for the same. The registration and verification process at the venue went smoothly, and the wait for my turn began.

The Interview Panel

The panel consisted of three members:

  1. TR (Technical)
  2. MR (Managerial)
  3. HR (Human Resources)

They welcomed me warmly, which set a positive tone for the interview. Being from the ECE branch, I had prepared extensively on CS fundamentals, OOPs, and my projects. However, to my surprise, the questions focused more on general topics and personal insights.

Questions Asked

General Questions:

  • Where do you come from? (MR)
  • Explain why there are variations in your marks. (MR)
  • Introduce yourself without including your academics. (TR)

Personal Interests:

  • Explain any two rules of photography. (TR)
  • Current Affairs and General Knowledge:
  • Why do you think Elon Musk is launching so many satellites? (TR)
  • Who is the Indian counterpart of Starlink with whom TATA is collaborating? (MR)

Project Discussion:

  • Explain your project in detail. (TR)
  • Calculate the probability of your model generating a False Positive outcome. (TR) (This was based on my ML project.)

Technical Knowledge:

  • How many satellites are required to track you in a GPS? (TR)
  • Explain Ohm’s Law. (MR)
  • What is VoLTE in a 4G network, as seen on mobile devices? (TR)

Behavioral and Ethical Dilemmas:

  • Suppose a friend saved your life. Today, while coming for this interview, you see that friend involved in a fatal accident. Knowing this is your last chance to secure a job, what would you do? (MR)
  • Personal Challenges and Academic Details:
  • Any challenges you faced and how you overcame them? (HR)
  • Do you have any backlogs or supplementary exams? (HR)

Final Thoughts

The interview experience was diverse, with questions testing not only my technical knowledge but also my general awareness, personal interests, and ethical reasoning. The panel’s approach was engaging, and their warm demeanor made the process more comfortable.

For future aspirants, my advice is:

  • Be prepared for unpredictable questions.
  • Highlight your interests and how they shape your personality.
  • Stay confident, adaptable, and honest in your responses.

This interview was a valuable learning experience, showcasing the importance of a well-rounded preparation beyond just technical expertise.
