In my experience, risk monitoring in the supply chain is crucial for managing risk. Every step involves financial transactions that must be monitored. Implementing the risk management process requires input from stakeholders and a high level of discipline to be effective. The risk management process must be embedded in the supply chain, with the supply chain management directing it from the front in coordination with the risk management team. It must also be communicated across the organization.

I focus on delivering the information in simple, understandable language, avoiding jargon to ensure clarity for non-experts. Additionally, I highlight actionable insights, outlining specific steps for risk mitigation and the potential impact on the supply chain, so stakeholders can make informed decisions and take timely actions. According to my experience, keeping stakeholders informed is like hosting a good dinner party. Timing, clarity, and relevance are everything. ✅ Timing. Regular updates are key, but don’t overload the inbox. Share what’s necessary, when it’s necessary. ✅ Clarity. Skip the compliance jargon (we all love it, but not everyone does) and get straight to the point. ✅ Relevance. Stakeholders appreciate knowing how risks impact them specifically and what they can do about it. In risk situations, my motto is “Communicate early, clearly, and with purpose”

Effective communication in risk management speaks to the consistency with which you build and maintain relationships in the industry. Effective communication speaks to constant dialogue, transparency, follow ups, feedback and reassurance. After receiving feedback it is equally important to reassure your customers, clients and business partners based on the analysis of the feedback received.

Supply chain disruptions can be devastating to businesses. The recent Los Angeles wildfires are an unfortunate reminder of this. Unfortunately, we in the insurance industry and risk management community see this all too often. Companies either don’t know where to start or are not honest with themselves on their ability to recover or the resources needed to do so. Talk with your insurance provider(s) to dig in on raw materials, assembly processes (and alternate processes), special equipment, and even potential partnerships with competitors to avert exacerbating the loss and mitigating ongoing losses that could prevent recovery altogether. Venbrook is adept these strategies. Let us catch you before you fall! #onevenbrook
