Open and close files
- [Instructor] Let's start with the first thing you'll do in Photoshop, opening files. When you launch Photoshop, you'll see this screen, which is called the home screen. It's personalized, so your home screen may have different content than mine, but we all have an open button here that's for opening existing image files. Go ahead and click that open button. That opens a Finder window on your Mac, or an Explorer window on a PC. In that window, navigate to the exercise files for this course, then open the Chapter 01 sub-folder and click on one of the images in that sub-folder. Then you could just open that single image, or if you want to select another image too, you can hold down the Command key on a Mac, or the Control key on Windows, and select that image. If you have a whole bunch of images to select and they're next to one another in your Finder or Explore window, you can click on the first one and then hold the shift key and click on the last one. Next, click the open button, and that will open both images into Photoshop proper. If you take a look at the top, you'll see that each image has a tab with the name of the file and some other information. And you can click those tabs to get to either of the open images. If you want to open another image from inside of Photoshop, go to the file menu at the top of the screen and choose open. And then you can select another image and click open and it will open in its own tab as well. Now, normally at this point, you would work on one of these images and save it. We'll cover saving later in this chapter, but here I just want to show you how to close a document. To do that on a Mac, click the X on its tab, and click the close icon on the tab in Windows, and that image is closed. If you have a number of files open in Photoshop and you want to close them all at once, you can do that too by going up to the file menu and choosing close all, and that takes you back to the home screen. And that's it. Next we're going to look at the Photoshop interface so that you can start getting to know your way around. So don't miss the next movie.
