- [Narrator] Think of your toothbrush. Hopefully, we all have one. How did we end up with the product we see today with a long stick shape with bristles on the end? Why isn't it a circle shape or a square? Originally, somebody needed something to clean their teeth with. Maybe they tried using a stick, but that might have hurt their mouth. Aha, there's our first requirement, a softer bristle. Oh no, the handle doesn't work if it's soft. So there's another requirement, two different materials. That concept of gathering requirements before or while building something has been around for a very long time. In this video, we'll discuss the roots of requirements gathering as a process in the technology industry, how nonfunctional requirements evolved in software development, and which trends are worth paying attention to.
