Julius “Dr. J” Erving turned his athletic career into an impressive business portfolio. Before retiring in 1987 with more than 30,000 career points, he made history by acquiring a majority stake in the Philadelphia Coca-Cola Bottling Company, the first Black-owned bottling franchise of its kind, valued at $100 million at the time. His other businesses include The Erving Group, founded in 1990, which offers consultations to startups and companies.
