Industry Veterans Launch Think Tank, Vendor-Neutral Tools for Retail AI Research, Readiness, Adoption.

Along with seven retail industry veterans, I'm pleased to announce Honeycomb AI – The Retail Think Tank for an AI World.

Honeycomb is a non-profit focused – in a vendor- and technology-neutral way – on key questions of retail business value and artificial intelligence.

Chaired by London-based David Roth, CEO, The Store WPP, and Chairman, BAV, the Honeycomb team has, through the past year, assessed the use and value potential of all forms of artificial intelligence across 15 operating categories and 233 common and emerging retail workflows.

From this unique, grounded-in-retail analysis, several tools for retailers and retail advisors will be made available through Honeycomb members in the days following the @National Retail Federation Big Show this week. Those tools, designed to enable value-driven action plans, include:

  • The Hive, an interactive site which will allow retailers to explore artificial intelligence value propositions, potential returns, technologies, and data requirements across the 15 operational categories and 233 workflows.

  • An AI readiness maturity model, designed to help retailers (and their advisors) identify and prioritize AI use requirements and dependencies, on topics ranging from governance and compliance to data preparation and architecture.

  • Four financial models – designed by an industry CFO -- through which retailers can assess potential returns of AI investments.

  • A whitepaper which details the findings of the workflow analysis and several important hypotheses for where, how, and how fast the long-standing benchmark ratios of retailing will irreversibly shift – and how the rest of the industry can catch up to retail’s early adopters.
