Data fusion requires combing information from a number of different sources. It provides a robust and complete description of an environment or process of interest. It is unreasonable to expect a single source of perfect and complete knowledge. So information must be obtained indirectly from sources which provide imp erfect and incomplete knowledge, using these to infer the information needed.

Topic :- MULTISENSOR DATA FUSION Necessity of Data Fusion :- Data fusion required for combing information from a number

of different sources to provide a robust and complete description of an environment or process of interest. Why multisensors :- It would be unreasonable to expect that there is some single source of perfect and complete knowledge about the problem of intere st and so information must be obtained indirectly from sources which provide imp erfect and incomplete knowledge, using these to infer the information needed. Advantages of multisensors :1. If several identical sensors are used combining the observations will resul t in an improved estimate of the state of interest. 2. It improves the observation process. Sensor fusion can result in poor performance if incorrect sensor information abo ut sensor performance is used. There is no perfect algorithm that is optimal under all conditions.
