Having absentee parents can negatively impact a student's social health according to a research paper. The paper studied the effects of absentee parents on first year Bachelor of Science in Nursing students' social health. Students with absentee parents were found to have lower self-esteem and poorer social skills than students with parents who were present. The lack of parental involvement and guidance left those students feeling lonely and insecure in their social relationships.
