038 Spanish Commands

To form Spanish commands, the tú form drops the final -s and the vosotros form changes the final -r of the infinitive to -d. The other forms (Usted, Ustedes, nosotros) use the present subjunctive. Nosotros is used for "Let's". Negative commands use "no" plus the present subjunctive. There are 8 irregular verbs for the tú form and several irregular stems that appear in commands. Verbs ending in -car, -gar, or -zar change c to qu, g to gu, and z to c in commands.

com/spanish/38-commands/ To form commands, drop the final -s on the present tense conjugation for the t form and change the final -r of the infinitive to -d for the vosotros form. The other imperative conjugations (for Usted, Ustedes, and nosotros) use the present subjunctive forms. You use the nosotros form when you mean Let's + infinitive. Negative commands use no + the present subjunctive conjugations for all forms. So the only forms that differ between affirmative and negative commands are t and vosotros. Verbs that end in -car, -gar and -zar have the following changes in commands as well: c becomes qu, g becomes gu, and z becomes c. Affirmative t Usted nosotros vosotros Ustedes Negative t Usted nosotros vosotros Ustedes -ar -es -e -emos -is -en -er or -ir -as -a -amos -is -an -ar -a -e -emos -ad -en -er or -ir -e -a -amos -ed / -id -an
