8TH DISTRICT BACK TO SCHOOL ART CONTEST ENTRY GUIDELINES


GENERAL GUIDELINES Contest Begins: September 10, 2012 Contest Ends: October 12, 2012 All artwork must be submitted electronically or postmarked by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 12, 2012. Submissions should be sent via e-mail to [email protected] or mailed to PO Box 882, Salem VA 24153 CONTESTANTS Contestants are divided into three age groups based on their grade in school as of the start of school in the Fall of 2012. Elementary (K-5), Middle (6-8), High School (9-12). Artwork will not be accepted from those who have graduated High School. Contestants must be a student of a school within the 8th District, determined by 2010 Redistricting; or, a resident of the 8th District, as determined by 2010 Redistricting. ARTWORK Artwork may be no bigger than 14x20 when framed. Accepted Media are as follows: o Paintings: oil, acrylics, watercolor, etc. o Drawings: pastels, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, ink, markers o Collage o Prints: lithographs, silkscreen, block prints o Mixed Media: use of more than two medias such as pencil, ink, watercolor, etc. o Computer-Generated Art o Photography IMPORTANT NOTES Artwork will be framed from January until May of 2013, and will not be returned to students sooner. Original artwork, copies or photographs will be accepted. Winners will be notified by December 1, 2012.
