To revolutionize make a change nothin's strange People, people we are the same No we're not the same Cause we don't know the game What we need is awareness, we can't get careless You say what is this? Public Enemy, Fight the Power

1. UWC presentation. 2. Brooks song analysis. (check blog label) 3. Mark Sinker: early on, he inquires about the creation of a community and the necessary components for a sound community. How has punk formed (or not formed) a coherent community (paragraph top right of page 3)? What do you think is punks responsibility to form a coherent community? What does punk need to do to create social change? Why should punk create social change (or not)? Write a 200ish-word response on the Sinker piece and our other readings and listenings. As a class, well listen to 3 songs that will provide additional context. 4. First paper due Thursday (or earlier if you like). Consult the critical thinking guide that I passed out during Discoveries. Handout in Major Papers on punkesthetics blog. Sample paper at Portfolio page. NYT review on blog. Please email to me (using filename requirements on blog) by 10 p.m. on Thursday 9/27. 5. For Monday, read; also, please listen to Identity / XRay Spex; Ceremony / New Order; Just Friends / Dogmatic Element for Nicks presentation.
