Hurricane Sandy Update

October 26, 2012
Morris Township Emergency Management officials have begun to prepare for the anticipated arrival of a major storm as a result of Hurricane Sandy. This major storm is currently projected to hit the New Jersey area sometime Monday. Everyone is being asked to monitor the weather forecasts. The potential continues to increase for strong damaging winds, extremely heavy rainfall and major flooding along streams and rivers. In addition, residents should plan for extended power outages. In order to provide the public with accurate and up to date information we ask that you continue to monitor our NIXLE and TWITTER alerts. Local residents are encouraged to sign up to receive free NIXLE messages by visiting NIXLE.com Nixle is a web based notification system that allows emergency management officials to immediately send critical information via text messages and email to cell phones, computers and smart phones. More detailed information will be available on our TWITTER site #MorrisTwpPD or by following Morris Townships website (MorrisTwp.org). You can also tune into WDHA (105.5FM) and WMTR (1250AM) throughout the event for updated public service announcements which Township Officials will be taping as needed. In preparation for the anticipated weather event leaves and debris should be cleared from the roadway and especially from around storm drains. Make sure that you are prepared with enough non-perishable food, water (1 gallon per day per person), sanitation and hygiene items, battery powered radios, batteries, and flashlights. As we witnessed in last years storms, there once again exists a great potential for extended power outages. Power outages should be reported to JCP&L at 1-888-544-4877. Please assume all power lines are live both during and after the storm. Wires down for several days may be reenergized as repairs are made along the circuit.
