Media Release: Storm Update

The Morris Township Police Department released a storm update providing information on power outages and road closures after hundreds of trees, poles, and wires were reported down across the area from the storm. JCP&L estimated it would take 7-10 days to restore power to all areas but noted this may be a conservative estimate given the damage. Residents were asked to report any new outages or power issues to JCP&L and to stay off roads due to downed power lines and traffic signals being out. Several major roadways were blocked including Mt. Kemble Ave., Mendham Rd., Sussex Ave., and sections of E. Hanover Ave. and Madison Ave. The Red Cross had established a shelter

Storm Update
October 30, 2012
As clean up begins we ask that you keep your brush and debris out of the roadway. We have reports of hundreds of trees, poles, and wires down. Initially, JCP&L advised it would take 7 10 days to restore power to the area. In light of the damage to the area that may be a conservative number. As power is restored, lines that are down will be energized and create very hazardous situations. If you have any questions on power or need to report a new outage please call 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877) immediately, or report them online by clicking "report outage" at firstenergycorp.com. FirstEnergy customer call centers will be fully staffed. The more people who call, the faster we can pinpoint the location where crews must be sent for repairs. As the list of blocked local roads in Morris Township are too many to list, the following is a summary of major roadways blocked by down trees or poles: 1. Mt. Kemble Ave. (Between Skyline Dr. & Harter Rd.) 2. Mendham Rd. 3. Sussex Ave. 4. E. Hanover Ave. (between Ridgedale Ave & Whippany Rd.) 5. Madison Ave. (between Punchbowl Rd. & Old Glen Rd.) Please be patient as there is significant damage to these roads which will require and extended period of time to repair. As normalcy begins to return, we ask that you STAY OFF OF THE ROADS. Most of the traffic signals are out throughout the state. Trees and poles continue to snap and the concern of energized power lines continue to be life threatening. Temperatures are expected to drop over the next few nights. If the need for shelter presents itself, the Red Cross has established a shelter at the Mennen Arena. Charging stations will remain an option at all of the Morris Township Fire Houses.
