Linear Inequalities Graphing

The document introduces linear inequalities and how to graph them on a number line. It defines the different inequality symbols like less than, less than or equal to, greater than, and greater than or equal to. Examples of inequalities are provided. The graph of a linear inequality shows all real number solutions to the inequality. Simple inequalities like x < 3 and x ≥ 4 are graphed as examples. The reader is then asked to graph 5 practice inequalities on number lines.

Linear Inequalities

Objective: To graph linear inequalities

Warm UP
Solve the equations below: (1) 2h + 6 = 20 h=7 (2) 3n + 11 = 26 n=5 (3) 4w + 5 = 29 (5) 4r + 14 = 26

r=3
(6) 8f + 21 = 37

f=2
(7) 6a + 32 = 44

w=6
(4) 7t + 3 = 31 t=4

a=2
(8) 9p + 32 = 59 p=3

Linear Inequality
An inequality is an open mathematical sentence formed when an inequality symbol is placed between two expressions.
Examples of inequalities:
x < 3 x4 5 x+2 > 7 x 4

The graph of a linear inequality is the graph on the real number line of all solutions of the inequality.
Lets graph a simple inequality: x<3

In words this says: all real numbers less than 3 Lets graph another: x4
