Abstract

This study aimed to determine if using animation videos could improve the listening comprehension of 26 ninth grade students at SMAN 1 Sungai Ambawang school in the 2011-2012 academic year. A classroom action research method was used with three cycles. Student listening test scores and notes from lessons were collected as data. Scores increased from 53.6 in the first cycle to 65 in the second and 74.62 in the third, indicating an improvement in listening comprehension from poor to average and then average to good. The results showed that using animation videos was effective for improving student listening comprehension.

The research is focused on the use of animation videos in improving students listening comprehension of the grade IX students of SMAN 1 Sungai Ambawang in Academic Year 2010/2011. The problem of this research is How did the use of animation videos in teaching and learning process improve the XI students listening comprehension of SMAN 1 Sungai Ambawang in academic year 2011/ 2012? The purpose of this research is To find out whether the use of animation videos improved students listening comprehension to the class XI of SMAN 1 Sungai Ambawang in academic year 2011/ 2012. The methodology of this research is a classroom action research which consisted of 3 cycles those are: first cycle, second cycle and third cycle. In collecting the data, the writer as the teacher used the table of students qualification in listening comprehension test and field notes. The table of students qualification is used as guide to score the students listening comprehension by listening activity tests. The field notes were used to notes of everything happens in teaching learning activity in every meeting and prepared to determine the appropriate treatment for the next cycle. By conducted the classroom action research, it is found out that using animation videos improve the students listening comprehension. The result of this research has shown students progress in listening activity in each cycle. First cycle was 53.6 points which were categorized into poor to average qualification, the second cycle was 65 points which were categorized into average to good qualification and in the last cycle was 74.62 points which were categorized into average to good qualification. In conclusion, the students listening comprehension had improved by using animation videos. The subjects of this research consisted of 26 students who belonged to the grade IX students of SMAN 1 Sungai Ambawang in Academic Year 2011/2012 Based on the above mention result, it can be conclude that teaching listening activtiy through animation videos can improve the students listening comprehension.
