FEATURES
z Combines a water column with an armored sight glass and magnetic level gauge for an easy-to-install package z Consult factory for configurations requiring code z Allows drum level to be seen from more than 100 feet away z Optional switches and transmitters mount directly to gauge chamber (non-invasive) z Reduces costly sight glass maintenance z Now approved for boiler service below 900 psi as a sight glass
Description
DrumSite indicators are designed for ease of installation and maintenance. The carbon steel water column is attached directly to the steam drum. The sight glass and magnetic level gauge are attached to the water column via block valves. This arrangement provides a highly visible drum level reading from 100 feet or more and eliminates costly maintenance on pressurized gauge glasses (while still conforming to ASME code). It also allows the level gauge or sight glass to be serviced independently without losing visual level indication. Alarms and level transmitters may be added to the gauge chamber without further penetrations to the drum or vessel. Both electronic and pneumatic alarm switches are available. Other options include standard flipper-style indicators (as shown below) and negative/positive scales. Heat tracing and insulation blankets can also be installed for the perfect out-of-the-box solution.
Principle of Operation
The DrumSite level indicator is engineered for (though not limited to) a boiler drum producing steam. The unit consists of a CS water column, liquid level gauge and sight glass. The magnetic level gauge consists of a float chamber made of non-magnetic materials, such as stainless steel, a float containing a magnet assembly and external flipper indicator. The sight glass is attached to the water column via block valves, allowing it to be blocked off after boiler start up. As the float rises and falls with the liquid level inside the float chamber, the magnetic indicator on the outside of the chamber rises and falls with the float, thus indicating the level. The externally mounted sight glass is provided to give positive verification of the liquid level in the drum, especially during start up. DrumSite indicators also provide drum level while maintenance is being performed on the sight glass or magnetic gauge.
