Activity 1 Essay About Formative and Summative Assessment

Formative assessment is used during the learning process to provide feedback through questions, marking, self-assessment, and peer assessment to help students improve their learning and self-esteem. Summative assessment measures student learning at the end of a process through tests and evaluations to determine if learning objectives were met and identify strengths and weaknesses in the teaching method. While formative assessment supports independent, collaborative learning, students may not develop strong self-assessment skills, and summative assessment only measures results rather than the learning process.

ACTIVITY 1 Essay about Formative and Summative Assessment

Formative assessment is a special and effective way to improve the process of learning, the aim is to help the students and makes them to be aware of the learning and encourages them to be active in the process of learning. And for teachers its a successful way for improving the teaching, the method. To develop formative assessment we need effective questions, feedback through marking, self and peer assessment, observing the students and giving them feedback will help to increase their knowledge, their self esteem and the learning, will stay in cognitive structure. The advantages of this process is that the students are independent learners, they help each other, they think better, learn better, express their ideas and develop the peer assessment as a result of the process. The drawback is the children dont develop these skills in the selfassessment. Summative assessment is the accountability measure of the learning indeed, it measure the students learning by some kind of evaluation, test, quiz, etc. its given to the students at the end of a process, at some level. the aim of the summative assessment is to know the knowledge of a student and to see if the process of the learning was ok, and with this kind of assessment the teacher can know the strengths and weakness in the method to improve it. The advantage in this summative assessment is that determined the effectiveness of a program, prove the effectiveness of the method throw a test result, and with this summative assessment we can see if the student has achieve the aims of the program. The drawback in the summative assessment is that it only assesses the result of the learning and not the process.
