Errors GPS
Errors GPS
B. Signal Reflection
the signal hits and is reflected off objects like tall buildings, rocks etc. causes the signal to be delayed before it reaches the receiver.
C. Ephemeris Errors
also known as orbital errors. errors in the satellites reported position against its actual position.
distortion of the signal by measurement noise can further increase positional error.
D. Clock Errors
the built in clock of the GPS receiver is not as accurate as the atomic clocks of the satellites. slight timing errors leads to corresponding errors in calculations.
E. Visibility of Satellites
the more the number of satellites a GPS receiver can lock with, the better its accuracy. buildings, rocks and mountains, dense foliage, electronic interference, in short everything that comes in the line of sight cause position errors sometimes make it unable to take any reading at all. GPS receivers do not work indoors, underwater and underground.
F. Satellite Shading
the satellites have to be placed at wide angles from each other for the signals to work properly. poor geometry resulting from tight grouping can result in signal interference.
G. Selective Availability
the intentional alteration of the time and epherimis signal by the Department of Defense. SA can introduce 0-70 meters of positional error. positional errors caused by SA can be removed by differential correction.
H. Multipath
GPS signal bouncing off a reflective surface prior to reaching the GPS receiver antenna is referred to as multipath. it is difficult to completely correct multipath error, even in high precision GPS units. multipath error is a serious concern to the GPS user. for GPS signals - effect mainly appears in the neighbourhood of large buildings or other elevations.
