Lesson #6 Word Building

The kindergarten phonics lesson reviewed vowel sounds, built words using magnetic letter tiles, and had students build words independently. Students sorted consonants and vowels, built words like "mad", "made", "mate", and "soap" by changing individual letters. The objective was for students to build 3 words with letters and recognize alphabet letters and sounds. Accommodations included one-on-one instruction, using yellow vowel tiles, a modified shorter word list, and fewer letter tiles for some students.

What words can I build with the letters I have?

Objective
SWBAT: 1. Build 3 words with letter tiles. 2. Recognize the letters and sounds of the alphabet

Accommodations
One on one instruction might be needed for this lesson. Vowels letter tiles could be copied on yellow paper so the students can easily know the difference between consonants and vowel. A modified word list of only short vowel words may be used. Rather than having 15 letter tiles being used, some students may need a smaller number such as 510 tiles.
