Analysis of Financial Statements Section B Project Guidelines Deliverable 1

Project Description: You are required to do a thorough financial statement analysis of two companies (of your choice) in the same sector. This includes not just the common size and trend analysis, but also ratio analysis with respect to liquidity, activity, solvency, profitability, and market perception. Having done the calculations, you are required to comment on the financial health of the company and identify any trends in data. These findings must be discussed by making linkages between general economic performance of the country over the period under study as well as performance and conditions of the sector to which firm belongs. Purpose of Deliverable 1: (Due on Monday April 30, 2012 for ALL Groups) Purpose of this part of the project is to develop a broader understanding of economy wide changes as well as sector understanding of the firms under study. Make sure that following requirements are met: Typewritten report of no more than 20 pages (double spaced, 12 standard font size) First section should discuss economic situation, relevant facts and figures, trends, and future outlook Second section should describe the sector, its overall business model, major players, performance over five year period, major issues and challenges faced and future outlook Charts, tables must be included in the appendices Reference to the sources used must be listed at the end Make a 10 minutes power-point presentation, focus should be on sector analysis

Evaluation Breakup: Overall marks: 35 percent, 25 percent for write-up and 10 percent for presentation
